People protest alleged lack of action in checking wild elephant menace

People in the Palashbari areas of Kamrup in Assam protested on June 17 by blocking roads allegedly against the Forest department's ‘inaction’ in keeping in check wild elephants in the area.

Guwahati, Assam, June 18 (HBTV): People in the Palashbari areas of Kamrup in Assam protested on June 17 by blocking roads allegedly against the Forest department's ‘inaction’ in keeping in check wild elephants in the area. 

Also, residents of Loharghat in West Kamrup Forest Division blocked the roads in protest.

According to information, wild elephants have been coming out of the forest to wander in the rural areas in search of food. 

Reports said houses, gardens, crops etc., are being damaged by wild elephants but the state’s Forest department, and police administration are not paying attention, allegedly.

Residents have informed the authorities several times about the rampage of wild elephants but they have not taken any action.  

Locals said no compensation for the damage caused by the wild elephants has been given till now.
